My mom is a teacher, and she uses some of others’ works of the teachers in the prepared lesson plans online. She paid for it sometimes. She asked me to edit a video of a teacher’s work. All the time, I think that I don’t know how to do it especially if there is copyright who needs to acknowledge their work. So, I don’t change anything at the last part to give honor to their work. I always explain it to my mother despite the video is taken on YouTube. Bloggers have the right to copyright already. I will tell them to use public site and free site that they can use without dealing with copyright and fair use. Be creative as possible because small and not good arts are still beautiful. As a teacher, my role is to teach them to make original of their works and acknowledge others work.
Something that stood to me is Academic Honesty because we are here at BYUH to build our character and integrity to never steal, cheat and lie. We need to act in faith that we are exemplar of this institution after we graduate, and we land a job. As students, we are not here to increase our knowledge but to learn from the school’s policy and strict regulations. Through their discipline, we can develop honesty with ourselves for our family, and work. I always sit at the back when taking an exam because I don’t like to cheat. As much as possible, I want to be honest with my dealing. I want to learn where I could possibly go wrong and how I can change it. It scares me a little, but I develop confidence with my answers and brave enough to stand alone. We are all doing our best at the university, so we just give it all of it including honesty. Always remember the Lord is watching us.
Aloha Shaila,I admire your dedication to upholding academic honesty and integrity, especially in acknowledging the work of others when creating educational materials. Encouraging your mom and others to use free and public resources is a thoughtful way to navigate copyright concerns while fostering creativity. Your commitment to honesty, even in small actions like sitting at the back during exams, reflects a strong moral compass that will serve you well both in your academic journey and beyond.
It's great that you're careful about copyright and honoring creators' work. Encouraging creativity and teaching the importance of original work and proper acknowledgment is valuable. It's important to use resources legally and ethically. Thank you for sharing that with us!
Hello Shaila, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. I can see that you already experienced copyright and fair use of materials in education. I really love what you shared in your second paragraph. It is true that as members of the Church and students at BYUH we have to comply with the Honor Code, which is an extension of God's commandment to be honest. Thank you for being honest. I really hate cheating too and it makes me feel bad. I think that when we live the gospel, respecting the Honor Code and avoiding plagiarism become easier. Thank you for sharing!
Hey Shaila! Another great blog post. I think it's neat that you don't change some of the teachers work to acknowledge their creations. Also I like that you want to encourage your students to be creative and original. Thank you for tying in faith and integrity into this post! Can help university student relate:)
